Why Sundays are my favorite day

I understand that many people out there dread this day because it means that their weekend is coming to a close and that they have to return to work. But I look at it a bit differently. And this isn’t me drowning you with toxic positivity. Some people hate their jobs and loathe having to get up on Monday when that alarm goes off, and I know how lucky I am to go to a job that I 90% of the time enjoy. Sundays are my reset day. The…let it all go day. The “let’s start this new week with a great attitude” day. Because there are, wait for it…24 hours in every day and 7 days in every week to turn it around. Okay, enough of me swarming you with affirmation memes.

This day means a lot of different things to me and I like to make the most of it. It’s the day that I almost always go hiking. Me, God and the sunrise…and usually some modern classical music (i.e. Lindsey Stirling). Trying to get to the top of whatever peak or threshold just as the sun crests over the horizon so I can enjoy my form of church? Heck yeah! I can talk out or hike out or run out whatever stresses bogged me down during the week and leave it all behind me when I leave those trails. And I get that I basically work out the other 6 days of the week in various capacities, but hiking feels so natural and like I was always meant to do it. I’m sure there were places in Michigan that I could have “hiked”, through different woods/forests/etc.; but every time I’m out on the trails of the outskirts of the desert valley it feels like Arizona was always calling me. If that makes sense.

I also do my weekly meal prep on Sunday mornings after hiking. Setting myself up for success for the week and ensuring that I’m not only making healthy food choices and that they’re delicious, but then I don’t have to cook dinner during the week! Come on man…I’m being proactive on Sunday so I can focus on other things after a hard day’s work during the week. I even manage to make a couple healthy meals for the spouse and he even likes them…most of the time. And I mostly make everything from scratch and chop and grill and whatnot, but if there are healthy shortcuts to simplify the process I will take them. And I don’t mean spending extra $$$ on getting meal prep boxes delivered to me. I mean pre-chopped, pre-prepared, pre-exertion side items to compliment whatever protein I’ve selected for the week. They exist and they are organic. They live in the organic refrigerated section or the organic freezer section of your local grocery store. Highly recommend them. And don’t be fooled…meal prep doesn’t have to take you HOURS on you reset day. I legit knock out cooking in about an hour by simplifying the process by picking up the precut mangos or flavored quinoa or whatever…just so I can enjoy my time.

Last but certainly not least, Sundays I take some additional “me” time by either going to the movies or even getting a manicure/pedicure or even spending some time reading several chapters of the book that I’m currently obsessed with. I get it! I’m married and I love my husband and spending time with him, but I also like taking care of just me a couple hours a week. And that can mean something different to you and finding that “you” activity is critical to your mental health. It is for me and I know what works for me. Then mid-day I’m all done with the “me” stuff and I can spend the rest of this beautiful day of the week with my husband watching a movie or TV or even sitting out on the patio enjoying the weather.

And when I’m done with my favorite day of the week, I’m completely refreshed and prepared to take on whatever challenges and wonders the new week plans on handing me. My personal mental and physical reset button. Hopefully this motivates you to look at the positive and provides some insight into how to start a brand new week and perhaps lose that “half empty” attitude that your weekend is over.

A little bit about me... It took me a long time to figure out what made me happy and what ultimately made me into the best version of myself. And I want to share that with each of you. Whether it was finding my passion with fitness, or getting rid of toxic people or at least trying to, or even just taking little breaks in every day to make YOU a priority. That's my goal. Awareness. It doesn't mean that you're a selfish person because you make yourself the hero in your own life's story.
